The Benito Juárez International Airport of Mexico City (AICM), under the direction of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), has launched a competition for the Architectural Conceptualization of terminals 1 and 2 of the airport. The competition has a prize of 100,000 pesos, which also includes the execution of the project and the installation of a plaque in the exhibition hall of terminal 1.
The main objective of this competition is to renew the corporate image of the country's main airport, aiming to consolidate it as a modern, efficient, and sustainable place with a strong focus on user satisfaction. The intention is to renovate the facades, corridors, waiting areas, and baggage claim and migration areas of both terminals, integrating natural elements such as plants and water into the architectural structure, along with a new range of colors in the finishes.
The competition is open to architecture students, architects, interior designers, urban planners, firms, workshops, and associations. Participant registration will take place from October 21 to 27, and the deadline for proposal submission is November 15. Subsequently, the evaluation by the jury will take place from November 16 to 22, and the winning proposal will be announced on November 23.
The prize will be awarded on November 29 at 11 AM and may be granted via electronic transfer or certified check. Participation in the contest can be individual or in teams, allowing one proposal per registration. A digital recognition will be given to all participants, and additionally, the winning proposal will receive monetary support and recognition from the AICM, as well as the placement of a plaque with the names of the authors.
The jury will be composed of public servants from the Secretariat of the Navy, the Mexico City Airport Group, the Mexico City International Airport, and the College of Architects of Mexico City. The result will be final and communicated through the institutional channels of the AICM and its communication media.
The details of the call, as well as the requirements for participant registration and proposals, are available on the official airport page. The winning architectural conceptualization will subsequently be carried out following the corresponding legal framework for public works and related services.
